“Whiskey, like a beautiful woman, demands appreciation. You gaze first, then it’s time to drink.” -Haruki Murakami, Hard-Boiled Wonderland and the End of the World (read that Stewie Griffin’s voice)
moving on swiftly…
Whisky. Fantastic whisky. Whisky sans Coca cola, Fanta, Sprite, Stoney or whatever the guy at Legends will suggest as an accompaniment for your shot of Black label.
A product of careful calculation of what goes where and when and how. Beautiful, beautiful whisky. There’s something about a drink that has soul, you know-a drink that gets you. That my friends is what the Johnnie Walker brand has to offer.
Yesterday I was invited for a closed shop experience at The House of Walker at the Kampala Sheraton Hotel. The kind of experience you gladly want to pay for when you finally switch lanes. I mean-I met a guy that treats his cold… and his wife’s cold with Blue Label, while I still borrow daddy’s bottle when I have to treat mine. Different ball game.
The House of Walker is a beautiful little place with great lighting, great vibes, good people and prices for the various whiskies in the Johnnie Walker brand that one can work with. I mean- it’s almost Christmas/New Years/My birthday right after New Years/Gabriel Macht’s birthday… and it’s just right next to Temptations-do tell if you needeth more hints-I am more than happy to drop some more.
Marcus, a nice young man…that obviously knows his whisky…very articulate, funny-no wait-he had some good jokes…okay I’ll just stop there-took us through a nice little presentation about 3 whiskies- JW Double Black Blended Scotch Whisky, Gold Label Reserve Blended Scotch Whisky, Platinum label 18 year old Blended Scotch Whisky.
If you can read this it’s obvious you have internet access and can read about the Johnnie Walker story so we won’t delve into that. Just a quick distinction between these 3 whiskies.(my observations that is)
JW Double Black Blended Scotch Whisky
When you nose it-it presents a polished soft wood scent. In short, you could nose it forever. Don’t you just love the smell of freshly made furniture? I think that’s what heaven’s furniture smells like.
Anyway when you sip it-don’t just swallow it. it took someone a while to make this…and someone else has paid a lot of excise duty for you to just swallow it like some common syrup. SAVOUR the taste-yes like you do wine.
It has a rich smoky taste. I think that last note before you take it all in is probably what Old English must taste like.
If you think that’s all a little to harsh-a drop of water can make it all more pleasant for your palate-not mine though but you know-suum cuique.
This blend can be paired with spicy red meat so if you have a BBQ and are a fan of spicy food-let’s be friends.
JW Platinum Label 18 year old Blended Scotch Whisky
(When I make partner/when Gabriel Macht proposes, this will be the celebration drink-No really then we can finish the bottle)
When you nose it- it’s got a much sweeter scent. if you have a thing for sweet drinks but want to step it up then this just might be your drink.
Savour it first: yes it almost choked you when you took it all in-BUT DID YOU DIE?? It is a smooth drink after the first sip. Smoother than the double black and doesn’t shock you as much.
I’m sorry to bring this to your attention since of course you can read this in your free time but this blend was in secret storage and only served when the Queen visited. The youngest whisky in this blend is 18 years old. YES 18 YEARS OLD so obviously it is the bottle you bring out on a special occasion to folks that appreciate a good whisky.
I had this with fish. I hate fish but it made the fish taste amazing
JW Gold Label Reserve Blended Scotch Whisky
(I can work with this if you send it my way-after all I’m consuming gold)
When you nose it: it’s got a light honeyed touch to it.
Best served chilled.(I wouldn’t throw in any ice-just chill the whole bottle. Again-it’s just a case of tastes and preferences)
Savour it first: No wait. First, eat some dark chocolate and then-Then sip on this blend. If that isn’t heaven in your mouth then I don’t know what that is. I don’t even like dark chocolate but now I know why they still have it on the market.
You can have this blend with all the sweet stuff in your house.
This is the part where I just yell “Good stuff” 20-45 times.
Honestly, I had a lovely evening. That’s all I can say.
